Watch Care Tips
Cleaning & products
- Use the safe Clean Your Watch Cleaning Spray to safely and effectively loosen dirt and grease from the exterior of your watch. Our formulas are pH-neutral, water-based, and safe for waterproof gaskets.
- Avoid gels for cleaning your watch. Gel sticks and causes unnecessarily prolonged contact with gaskets, which can cause damage. Always opt for a spray or foam for safe and gentle cleaning.
- Do not use toothpaste or jewelry cleaner. Many so-called watch cleaners are actually repackaged jewelry cleaners. These products are often too aggressive and can damage gaskets due to high pH levels or chemicals such as naphtha, chlorine, alcohol, or ammonia.
Clean Your Watch products are specially developed exclusively for watches.
Brushes
- Always use our super soft watch brush wet. A dry brush, no matter how soft, can cause scratches. A wet brush acts as a lubricant and protects surfaces when dirt is moved.
- Use the brush only when necessary. Although it is extremely soft, brushing too often can cause tiny scratches by moving dirt particles across polished surfaces.
- Avoid products where the cleaner is dispensed through the brush head — this increases the risk of micro-scratches.
- Do not use brushes with synthetic bristles. These bristles can be too harsh for delicate/polished watch surfaces and ultimately cause more harm than good.
- Avoid nail or shoe brushes. These are much too rough and cause noticeable micro-scratches, especially visible in sunlight.
Cloths
- Is your watch visibly dirty? Clean first with the CYW Cleaning Spray before using a cloth. Even a soft cloth can cause scratches if you wipe dirt across the surface.
- Avoid cloths with polish or rouge. No Clean Your Watch cloth contains polishes. Polishing alters the original factory finish and should only be done by authorized specialists.
- Avoid fluffy microfiber cloths. Our tests show that fluffy cloths feel very soft but can actually cause micro-scratches, especially if they contain 'wool' or other animal hair.
